Raffaella Crispino
200 Différents Oiseaux
1/9unosunove is proud to present a solo-exhibition by Italian artist Raffaella Crispino (1979, Naples).
Raffaella Crispino’s work is site-specific. Through numerous travels, her work yearns for reflections on the contemporary world through various temporalities in which concept and emotion coexists in minimal works with layers of meaning.
200 Différents Oiseaux is and is not an exhibition on birds: videos, drawings, installations, assemblage and photography interact and actualize socio-political concepts and urban architecture related to Vietnam, Cambodia, Palestine and Belgium. The title of the exhibition is given by the unpublished work by the same name 200 Différents Oiseaux (2010) in which beauty and youth are posing a similarity between an unimaginable bestiary and human characteristics. The work is composed by 21 collages of portrait photos from an antiques dealer in Saigon and 200 stamps depicting various birds. The colonialist atmosphere of this work is connected to the photography taken from a Palestinian terrace on occupied territory and the work Strategy Tables (2009), in which the maps of Southeast Asia show routes of war under Lonely Planet’s indications.
The exotic dimension of the exhibition returns in the works produced in Belgium: the architectural silhouette of Notre-Dame aux Riches Claires of Brussels is modelled by the black and white graphic tone of the video while the abstract roofs of the Flemish city De Haan are transformed into feathery geometries by the drawing.
