Peppe Perone

In the sculptures of Peppe Perone everyday objects which are destined to be ignored appear as primordial. A myriad of combinations are crystallized in sand, suspending the perishibility of the materials and giving their apperance a uniformity whilst postponing their disappearance. Plastic tubing and fibreglass is fashioned into columns of paper cups similar to sandcastles and our visual first impressions allow us a glimpe of a metropolis whose foundations are based on used and discarded pillars. The natural elements can be recognised as references to the geographic identity of the artist: the spiders, lizards and fish which are often present in the scuptures are part of the space where the artist lives and works and the window, which allows us a naturalistic view of a wholly familial scene, belongs to his studio. From 2002, the year in which he distinguished himself as the best young artist in the Preview Section of MiArt, until the Quadriennale di Roma, sand has been the constant medium used to create objects which, while still tied to his private world, belong in every case to the common imaginary collective.

Esther Stocker
Using wood, foam and acrylic as her media, she creates dramatic illusions of depth the same way one does when making marks on a sheet of paper to create three-dimensional forms.
